Question for Biden supporters
I see some staunch Biden supporters posting that they would take the $1000 payment (for mortgage or rent) if the Government offered it to them. While this makes sense, I would ask them these the following questions:
1) HOW YOU GONNA PAY FOR THAT?!
2) Isn't that Socialism? America seems okay with socialism for the rich:
3) For those who are worried about rent or mortgage payments past one month, why didn't you vote for Andre Yang, the only candidate offering a Universal Basic Income of $1000/month? https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/andrew-yang-universal-basic-income-222430729.html
4) Sanders has been pushing for a minimum wage of $15 (at least since 2015), which would have helped people with daily expenses as well as their savings. Whether they saved or not would have been their choice, but at least they would have had that choice. https://www.sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/sanders-introduces-bill-for-15-an-hour-minimum-wage
5) Biden claimed that universal healthcare didn't help Italy, Spain, etc, which not only contradicts his claim that Trump mishandled the pandemic, but ignores the fact that COVID-19 got to America late, so when it starts to spread, we'll see how well America's for-profit healthcare system handles it. For now, all we can do is imagine what would have happened if we had a Universal Healthcare system that eliminated the fear of exorbitant bills, allowing those COVID-19 victims exhibiting symptoms to go to the doctor without hesitation. this is but a dream, because in America right now, people fear medical bills more than the illnesses that plaque them which is terrible when individuals die from illnesses that are NOT contagious, but catastrophic when facing a pandemic. Even if Obamacare was as strong as Biden "wants to make it", those who still can't afford it would present a hurdle when trying to minimize COVIV-19s propagation. https://www.kff.org/report-section/the-uninsured-and-the-aca-a-primer-key-facts-about-health-insurance-and-the-uninsured-amidst-changes-to-the-affordable-care-act-how-many-people-are-uninsured/
6) I imagine those pushing for Biden are also still fans of Obama because the return to "normal" (pre-Trump politics) that Biden offers is a return to an Obama-style of leadership in which Obama bailed out banks and car companies while leaving the American people to fend for themselves during the Recovery after the Great Recession. Is Biden/Obama leadership what we should be gong for? If so, why would you accept a handout now? Just keep plugging along on your own because Biden offers nothing substantial. I make this claim because I've asked Biden supporters to tell me what Biden offers and to date, this question has gone unanswered.
7) Related to point 6, and until recent times a Republican talking point, the demonization of those in need has increasingly become a Democratic voter mantra. Now, I only have anecdotal evidence of this claim from social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, but those claiming to be Democrats have started claiming that the poor are lazy and shouldn't get Governmental handouts while ignoring statistics that refute such arguments: 44% of working Americans only make $18,000 dollars a year. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2020/01/08/low-unemployment-isnt-worth-much-if-the-jobs-barely-pay/ Now that those who make claims like these face an emergency similar to the threat that poor Americans have faced for years, they want a handout. Is this not hypocrisy? And is it actually true that the poor are lazy? https://youtu.be/2wCHtOTxQak and https://youtu.be/h1AWLo_fK1U (These are just two of many stories of people living in their cars while working full time and going to school (in some instances) that can be found on Youtube.com)
Now, while this post may sound like an "I told you so", it is intended to point out the flaws in voting for a return to "normalcy", because "normalcy" not only led to a healthcare and economic system that insured Americans were not prepared for the impacts of COVID-19 or the historic economic crash we are currently witnessing, but also led from Obama and the loss of 1000 Democratic seats of leadership nationwide to Trump and his overt lying and ruination of the American spirit, reputation and economic dominance... directly and literally.
1) HOW YOU GONNA PAY FOR THAT?!
2) Isn't that Socialism? America seems okay with socialism for the rich:
- Tax breaks like those Trump approved in his 2017 tax bill or,
- Corporate subsidies, like those we have been paying fossil fuel companies (even after 7 or 8 CEO of oil companies testified to Congress that they did not need to be subsidized, or
- Plan ole handouts like the 1.5 trillion dollars that the Federal Reserve put into the Repo Market to coverup some failing bank(s) (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-09-19/the-repo-market-s-a-mess-what-s-the-repo-market-quicktake) or to falsely prop up zombie corporations that have long been dead (Note: This article is from 2014) https://finance.yahoo.com/news/happens-fed-stops-propping-stocks-094500610.html
